What is the difference between a cafe and a coffee shop?

Cafe and coffee shop are quite similar in word, so you may think to yourself that this is just creativity in wordplay or a play on words, but the reality is that they are very different in terms of the food served, menu, decor, etc., and both have gained their identity from the gathering of two or more people and enjoying different tastes and soft music, etc.

Day by day, cafes and coffee shops are trying to get closer and closer to the ideal identity of cafes and coffee shops by creating a more suitable space. At the beginning of this content, we will discuss the difference between cafes and coffee shops, which it is worth noting that there are several opinions on this matter:

The culture of cafes and coffee shops in Iran is becoming more established every day than yesterday, and people, especially young people, who are becoming more accustomed to the customs and traditions of this culture, are increasing. Maybe a few years ago we saw 3-4 coffee shops or cafes in one place, but today we see 3-4 cafes on one street, and this shows that people are very receptive to them.

Coffee shop:

Fancy and commercial coffee shop:

Usually, they are casual spaces or easy places to get drinks, which can be found in abundance in shopping malls and chain stores. Temporary and decorative spaces are not foreseen for them, and they are served with simple signs and simple facilities...

Traditional and semi-commercial coffee shop:

Usually, spaces that are popular and popular with the public because of their age and history. These cafes are usually found in the old parts of a city. They are a little more advanced than fancy and commercial coffee shops in terms of equipment and usually retain their old structure. But in essence, they are more like a small restaurant!

Regarding the difference between a cafe and a coffee shop, I must say that a coffee shop is something between a cafe and a restaurant that serves coffee and various drinks, as well as hot and cold food. Since the popularity of coffee, coffee shops in Iran have been a place to serve coffee and gather customers and people, and a place to read poetry and books. For this reason, from the very beginning, the layout and decoration of coffee shops have been arranged in a conversation-oriented and circular manner. In the coffee shop layout, tables and chairs can be designed in front of the coffee shop and in the open air and terrace so that customers can enjoy the food they have ordered more with a better atmosphere and fresh air.

In coffee shops, the menu is placed on the table and the waiter comes to the table to take the order and takes the order, and the cost is often paid after the order is served. In a coffee shop, the number of staff is more than in a cafe due to its size. And its cost is more expensive than a cafe due to the cost of personnel, location, and its setup, and of course, its cost is lower than a restaurant. Coffee or its accessories are sold in a coffee shop, but only coffee is served in a cafe. Tips for recognizing a professional coffee shop: Smell the smell and aroma of properly roasted high-quality coffee, serve a professional espresso instead of any other smell when entering the coffee shop. Make the cappuccino foam properly and professionally and easily separated from the coffee.

Before placing your order, listen carefully to hear the sound of the coffee grinder, which is a sign of the professionalism of the coffee shop, because if the coffee is ground immediately before brewing, the coffee will be more delicious, as is the famous "proportion of the container and the container". Each type of coffee should be served in a suitable cup or mug, and the food should be served in a container appropriate to the type of food.

Cafe:

Luxury and bourgeois cafes:

They are usually old and relatively new spaces where the aristocratic and wealthy classes are present and usually have a ceremonial and completely prestige-oriented look that is intended for show-off and narcissism and to attract attention among this wealthy class and usually have expensive and elaborate decorations. Perhaps the bourgeois French cafe is a close term for this type of cafe.

Petite bourgeois and sub-cultural cafe:

This type of conventional cafe is mostly built in the field of branding and introducing itself as a single cafe and welcomes classes such as famous artists and wealthy athletes and the cultural petty bourgeoisie. Relatively luxurious and so-called extravagant places for decoration and furniture and the like... and more of an identity they want to be introduced (branding) and be famous and famous in society...

Student, cultural cafes:

Cultural cafes that are more simple and with a student approach and attract ordinary passers-by from society, rather than introducing the brand and spending a lot on decor and attracting famous people, and decorations that usually hang photo frames of famous writers and directors on the walls and are present in the main spaces of the city, and relatively lower costs are paid for drinks and fast food. Usually, poetic and artistic conversations and discussions are held in them and they are more customer-oriented than audience-oriented.

Author's cafe (special):

These are cafes that have the appearance of their name and logo and sometimes their advertising and cultural slogan that can distinguish them from other types of cafes. Usually, a distinction is desired in the way of dealing with and activities in these cafes. They are far from the usual surroundings and events of a cafe, and the role of thoughtfulness and contemplation can be seen in them, and they are more intellectual and mental in nature. They usually distance themselves from mere idealism, and they are far from formalities and luxuries, and they focus on space and appearance, and they are audience-oriented rather than customer-oriented. These spaces may not be found in every region, and they are usually attended by thinkers and intellectuals, and even consider the basis for playing music in their lounge space to be musical caressing and aural aesthetics. They have their own decor and may distance themselves from the rules and principles of a standard cafe, and with new and intellectual events, they always represent an intellectual and spiritual space for the audience rather than a hangout or permanent place for physical presence.

In the Moeen dictionary, a cafe means all people, and in the Dehkhoda dictionary, it means a public place to sit and have coffee and tea, etc. But a cafe in the general sense of its location is a place where people come to enjoy tea or coffee with cake or sweets, as they wish. Cafes are not meant to be secluded, but they can be a cozy environment for mental and spiritual relaxation. Another difference between a cafe and a coffee shop is that cafes become more of a hangout than coffee shops, and this is due to the space and atmosphere that prevails in cafes.

What features should a good and professional coffee shop have?

Coffee quality:

The first and most important factor that affects the value of your cafe is the coffee you give to the customer. Very important factors affect the quality of your coffee. From the coffee beans you prepare to the coffee machines and professional baristas, all of them are among these factors. Investing in quality and necessary machines is a very important issue that you must pay attention to in order to have a good coffee shop.

Comfortable furniture and chairs:

Observations show that many cafes consciously use chairs that are not comfortable. There is a thinking behind this issue based on the fact that when the customer's chair is not comfortable, he will leave the cafe sooner and the next customer can replace him. This view is very wrong. It may seem like an economic thought at first glance, but the most important factor in the success of a coffee shop is the comfort and convenience of the customer. A factor that can be understood in the long term and by observing the financial turnover of the cafe. Because the customer will visit a cafe for the second and subsequent times where he felt comfortable the first time.

High-speed Internet access:

Many people are interested in spending time in a cozy and quiet place away from home and work. Today, with the increasing expansion of the online world, many businesses and daily affairs are carried out online and even via phones. Observations show that people tend to spend their time in a place where they are comfortable and can pursue their daily affairs while having a coffee or a meal. It is still observed that many cafes do not have Internet access, and those that do have this capability do not have high connection speeds for all customers.

Good and affordable food:

A coffee shop is an informal place where you can go with a group of friends or alone and enjoy spending time there. What people expect is that they can easily go to their favorite cafe and have a good and hearty meal there at any time they want. Without worrying about the high cost and wanting to plan for it in advance. So it is very important that your menu prices are chosen very wisely.

A library with good magazines and books from around the world:

In our opinion, a cafe where a collection of good books and magazines is available to people has a special advantage over others. Many customers are interested in spending some of their free time reading in a quiet cafe and if your cafe provides this opportunity for them, they will become your regular customers and one of the characteristics of a good coffee shop is to pay attention to this factor.

Great Environment:

According to research, having a mix of calm and hustle in an environment is one of the factors that make it successful. Sometimes we go to a cafe to spend some time for ourselves and do personal things, and sometimes we go to see people or socialize with friends. Your cafe should have a comfortable and friendly environment. One of the reasons that has made Starbucks successful and popular among people is its environment. Starbucks is not just a place to drink coffee, but a comfortable and public place to interact, socialize, and relax away from home and work.

Creating a concept, brand and slogan:

Your name and logo are your identity. So be very careful in choosing it. Leave your logo design to professionals in this field. Also, choose an attractive slogan for yourself. Do you remember how you felt when you first saw a cup of Lamiz Coffee? You will feel better soon. A sentence that conveys a pleasant feeling to the customer every time you see it.

As mentioned in the explanation above, the first and most important principle is to provide quality and authentic coffee and various drinks, and this is possible if you can be a professional barista or have one on your team...

You can get a great shot from a young, enthusiastic and skilled barista because good coffee is not an accident!!
