What is stonework

Stonework is one of the final stages of building a building. After the construction of the building with the basic materials of the different parts of a building is completed, it is time to cover it with covering, durable and beautiful materials. Stone is one of the most common materials used in the construction of the exterior and interior of buildings. Using stone requires special skills and is not for everyone.

Types of Stonework

Interior masonry

Interior masonry refers to the masonry of any part of a building that is located inside its interior space. Masonry of staircases inside the building, masonry of interior floors and walls, masonry of cabinets, countertops and kitchen islands, masonry of bathrooms and toilets are all types of interior masonry. Each of the parts mentioned is done in a specific way and with attention to the fine and precise details of masonry by the masonry worker.

Exterior masonry

Exterior masonry refers to the masonry of all areas and parts of the building that are exposed to external and weather conditions. Masonry of the courtyard wall and floor, parking lot floor and exterior facade of the building are all sub-categories of exterior masonry.

Duties of a professional building masonry worker

A masonry worker has duties that he must fulfill in relation to the masonry project he is doing. Some of the most important duties of a stone worker include the following:

Skills Required by a Stonemason

A professional stonemason must have certain skills in order to perform his duties properly. Some of the most important skills that a stonemason must have are:

Familiarity with calculations and basic mathematics

Practical skills

Creativity and artistic flair in creating decorative stones

Tips to be observed in stonemasonry

Note that in stonemasonry for buildings, some points must be observed so that the quality of the finished work is good:

You must use solid working methods when installing stones; because due to cold and heat and the expansion and contraction of the stone, it is possible for it to separate and fall.

Cement, sand, and grout must be of high quality and used in sufficient quantities to bond the stone.

It is very important to keep the back of the stone clean during installation.

Avoid pouring grout in cold, sub-zero weather.

Installing wire and stone scoops is essential for stones that are more than 1 meter high.
