Introduction to EXCEL Software
Excel software is a spreadsheet software or Spread Sheet. This means that EXCEL is a very large table that users can define and write formulas for each cell of this data table according to their needs. The user will also be able to change the appearance of each cell as desired or define access restrictions for each cell.
What is EXCEL?
With the advent of "Personal Computers" (PC), various operating systems also came to the market. Operating systems such as "Microsoft Windows" (MS-Windows) have become the most widely used operating system today. As you know, an operating system is a computer program and software that establishes a connection between the user and the hardware and, on the other hand, allows the management of computer resources and files, as well as peripheral memories. Also, "Application" or "Utility" programs operate under the supervision of the operating system. Since the computer is designed to execute repetitive commands and perform calculations with precision and store large amounts of information, perhaps its greatest use at the birth of personal computers can be considered in the field of accounting and financial management. Preparing books that are produced in accounting with a tabular structure (such as profit and loss tables, fixed tables and total tables) is a difficult and precise task. For this reason, personal computer manufacturers considered accountants as their first target and introduced spreadsheets to the market to facilitate their operations.
Use of EXCEL software in the workplace
Excel is used to enter and categorize various quantitative and qualitative data, perform mathematical calculations and draw graphs using graphic tools, create simple accounting programs, etc. You should know that Excel is also capable of performing difficult mathematical calculations, and there are few people who have not used Excel to store and analyze accounting or mathematical information. The many capabilities of Excel software and their ease of learning and using them have made the use of this software inevitable in many areas of work.
In short, Excel software can be used for very simple tasks such as listing personal daily purchases to complex tasks such as preparing management dashboards. In addition to all the capabilities included in Excel (such as drawing graphs, writing formulas, preparing databases, dashboards, etc.), EXCEL can be turned into a very professional software for data analysis and reporting using VBA coding.
What is VBA in Excel?
VBA stands for Visual Basic Applications, a programming language designed by Microsoft. And since it was created by Microsoft, it is also included in all the programs in this suite.
Uses of VBA in Excel
You can use VBA in Excel to perform advanced scientific data analysis, create automatic forms, create various messages, create specific planning and forecasting, and many other applications.
What is the use of EXCEL in accounting?
If you also visit the financial and accounting departments of any company, you will see that part of the computer screen is filled with Excel spreadsheets. Pages that contain financial information, budgets, forecasts, and programs used for major business decisions. This part of the business relies on Excel spreadsheets more than other sectors and benefits from its benefits. Advanced formulas in Excel can perform manual processes that take hours to complete in a matter of minutes. Most users know that Excel can do things like addition, multiplication, division, and subtraction well, but keep in mind that this software also has very advanced functions.
What is a formula in Excel?
You can create a simple formula to add, subtract, multiply, or divide values on your worksheet. Simple formulas usually start with an equal sign (=) followed by constants that are numeric or text values, along with other calculation operators. Of course, you can also use + or – to start a formula. For example, look at the image below. In cell A1, the sum of the numbers 2 and 3 is calculated. It is clear that we have used the “=” sign to start the formula.
